FAQ

Here are some answers to Frequently Asked Questions here at Virg's Landing:

Yes you do!  California state law says that all anglers 16 and older are required to have a valid California Fishing license to fish aboard a boat.  You do not need to purchase an annual fishing license as California does have One Day and Two Day licenses for purchase and we always have them here.

On most trips you are not required to make a reservation.  However, if you don't there are a couple of things that can happen:  If we don't get enough reservations we cannot set up a trip as we do require a minimum number of passengers to go.  Also, we cannot contact you and give you updated information without a reservation!  We can also better serve you if we get a reservation because we can plan our crew scheduling better and also help schedule a second boat to keep the loads down if necessary!

We will hold your reservation until 1/2 hour before the scheduled departure time.  We recommend you arrive between 1/2  to 1 hour before departure so that you have time to check in and get any items you may need.  The boats usually begin loading about 15 minutes before departure, depending on the load.  If you are going to be late getting here, please call us!  We can hold the boat for no more than 10 minutes after departure time before it has to depart.

You cannot take a hard sided ice chest aboard any of the open party boats.  You can, however, take a soft sided cooler or backpack if you'd like to bring your own lunch or snacks.  The reason for this is safety; hard sided coolers can roam around the boats causing injury and they also take up a lot of room!  You can bring tackle boxes on board but please try to keep them moderate sized!

If you made a reservation and then cannot go, please call us and let us know!  This courtesy is greatly appreciated!  It helps everyone in that we can keep a current list of reservations so that we can better plan the trips!  If possible, please let us know 24 hours before your trip if you have to cancel.  We cannot say thank you enough to all those who let us know before hand that they can't make it!

That depends on whether you are prone to or not?  If you are not sure you can get dramamine from a pharmacy or we stock motion sickness pills here in the Tackle Store.  Always err on the side of caution if you are  not sure.

No, you can't.  We sell beer on each of our boats but passengers are not allowed to bring their own alcohol aboard.  Also, please do not bring any glass bottles aboard, for obvious reasons!

Yes it is!  We will clean or fillet your catch for you if you'd like!  This service costs $1 for Rockfish and more for larger fish such as Lingcod, Albacore and Halibut.

Only if you need to!  If you have your own gear and it is appropriate for the trip you are going on, by all means, please use it!  If you do need to rent equipment, we have all the gear you'll need to get out there!  We not only rent proper rod and reel combos but have all the correct tackle for sale in the store if you need it!

We usually say around 35 to 40 pounds.  We've had kids out there as young as 5 and 6 years old who have done great!  Get 'em out there and give it a go!

Parking at Virg's Landing is convenient and always free!  There is parking available in the lot right in front of our Tackle Shop!  Make sure you park facing the street or on the street, however, as it is only 4 hour parking facing the water!
